4284   ImageKingman's City Post, Charleston S.C., 2c Black on Bluish (4LB14). Ample margins to just in at upper left corner, faint crease, tied by manuscript "M" cancel (Joseph G. Martin), "Charleston S.C. Jan. 20, 1858" circular datestamp on piece of overseas cover, manuscript "(Bre)men Steamer", part of red boxed Franco transit, Fine appearance and very rare, what a cover this must have been, Eliab J. Kingman, Dr. Honour's brother-in-law, retired in March 1858 and was replaced by Joseph G. Martin, a relative by marriage, the "M" initial is believed to have been applied as a cancel by Martin to stamps bearing Kingman's name, ex Caspary (Image)

4286 og ImageBishop's City Post, Cleveland O., (unstated value) Blue (10LB1). Uncancelled, irregular margins to in, tiny nick at top and corner crease, rich color, Very Good, a presentable example of this rare stamp, Henry S. Bishop was appointed to operate the Cleveland carrier department on December 21, 1853, research by Elliott Perry shows that Bishop became an employee of the post office on July 1, 1854, but the city post continued to function, with or without his direct participation, Bishop issued two stamps: the 10LB1 Blue with blank oval, presumably designed to accommodate more than one denomination; and the 10LB2 Black with 2c value, both are very rare, Scott Retail $5,000.00 (Image)
