VERY FINE-EXTREMELY FINE. A RARE GROUP OF THE ONE-CENT TO 90-CENT OFFICIAL ATLANTA TRIAL COLOR PROOFS.

The Atlanta trial color plate proofs on card were prepared for display at the 1881 International Cotton Exposition in Atlanta. Only one sheet in each color was printed.

This set is complete except for the 28 dollar-value State Department stamps, which catalogue $1,000.00 apiece. Most previous offerings by our firm are either nearly complete (such as the Sheriff set) or substantially incomplete to the point where they are offered by department. (Image)

2431 TC Image2c-$60.00 1875 Newspaper Issue, Goodall Trial Color Small Die Proofs (PR9TC-PR32TC). Complete set of 24 values in five colors: Black, Deep Green, Dull Gray Blue, Deep Brown and Dull Red, generally 35 x 40mm India on 45 x 55mm card, the 60c smaller, rich colors, very few with few toned spots

VERY FINE AND EXTREMELY RARE COMPLETE SET OF GOODALL TRIAL COLOR SMALL DIE NEWSPAPER PROOFS. PROBABLY FEWER THAN A HALF-DOZEN SETS EXIST.

In 1879, President Albert G. Goodall of the American Bank Note Company, successor to the Continental Bank Note Company, ordered sets of small die proofs for display purposes. Complete sets are rare -- we have offered only one other since 1998.

2435 E Image3c Minerva, Harris Automatic Press Company Offset Essay on Hard White Wove Paper (Brazer 385-E2b, TD28, TD29). Horizontal pair of first and single of second, large margins, Very Fine, scarce, Harris installed one of their presses in the BEP to demonstrate production of stamps by the offset method, the design was taken from the 2c 1903 Issue, the presses were not adopted at that time but were used for printing some Revenue stamps, particularly Tax Paids (Image)
