VERY FINE AND UNIQUE ESSAY OF THE 3-CENT 1890 ISSUE, SUBSTITUTING JAMES MADISON FOR ANDREW JACKSON.
The image of James Madison did not appear on any stamp of the 1890 Issue or any earlier issue, but would make its debut on the $2.00 value of the subsequent Bureau series of 1894.

VERY FINE AND UNIQUE ESSAY OF THE 10-CENT 1890 ISSUE, SUBSTITUTING JOHN ADAMS FOR DANIEL WEBSTER.
Except for the lilliputian depiction of John Adams standing among a roomful of people in the vignette of the 24c 1869 Pictorial Issue, based on John Trumbull's iconic painting, the nation's second president and Founding Father was not honored with a postage stamp until 1938. Adams has appeared on only two design-different U.S. postage stamps: the 2c 1938 Presidential and the 1986 Ameripex souvenir sheet, both of which occurred by default as they depicted all the presidents.
VERY FINE AND UNIQUE ESSAY OF THE 10-CENT 1890 ISSUE, SUBSTITUTING WILLIAM TECUMSEH SHERMAN FOR DANIEL WEBSTER.
Civil War Major General and U.S. Army Commanding General William Tecumseh Sherman's portrait was finally chosen on the 8c value of the 1890 Issue. His image was resented by Southerners, for whom Sherman's scorched-earth tactics were still a fresh memory.
VERY FINE. A RARE SET OF LARGE DIE PROOFS OF THE 1890-93 AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY ISSUE.
We have offered only one other set since keeping computerized records, which was in a presentation album. (Image)
