VERY FINE AND UNIQUE ESSAY OF THE 10-CENT 1890 ISSUE, SUBSTITUTING JOHN ADAMS FOR DANIEL WEBSTER.

Except for the lilliputian depiction of John Adams standing among a roomful of people in the vignette of the 24c 1869 Pictorial Issue, based on John Trumbull's iconic painting, the nation's second president and Founding Father was not honored with a postage stamp until 1938. Adams has appeared on only two design-different U.S. postage stamps: the 2c 1938 Presidential and the 1986 Ameripex souvenir sheet, both of which occurred by default as they depicted all the presidents.
