VERY FINE AND RARE GROUP OF 1861 5-CENT TOPPAN, CARPENTER & COMPANY ESSAYS.

The plethora of 1903 Schernikow reprints of the 1861 Toppan, Carpenter 5c essays can lull collectors into the belief that these are common. In fact, the original 1861 cut-to-shape essays are scarce and the larger essays (67-E1a and 67-E2d offered here) are very rare.
