Aug. 23" circular datestamp on adversity cover made from printed U.S. Navy Yard at Pensacola Florida form to Chocktaw Corner Ala., opened for display, some toning, Very Fine and very unusual, this navy yard surrendered to the Confederacy Jan. 12, 1861 and was reoccupied by federal forces on May 10, 1862 so this form was probably carried around for some time before being turned into a cover (Image)

2402 c ImageFort Warren, Boston Mass. Inbound cover bearing 3c Rose (65) tied by "Norfolk Va. Jun. 8, 1862" double-circle datestamp on homemade cover addressed to "Captain Samuel Barron, C.S.N., Fort Warren, Boston", receiving backstamp, stamp with defects, some slight edgewear, Fine appearance, Fort Warren was first used in November 1861 for the incarceration of political prisoners and also held C.S.A. prisoners, Captain Barron was a prominent figure in the U.S. Navy before resigning to serve the Confederacy, he commanded the defenses of forts Hatteras and Clark at the end of August 1861 and was captured when both fell, he was a prisoner first in New York and then at Fort Warren and was released in an exchange in 1862 after which he was sent to England to take command of two ironclad rams, he then served the Confederacy in France (Image)
