VERY FINE. ONE OF THREE CALIFORNIA PENNY POST COMPANY ENTIRES IN BLUE RECORDED IN THE FRAJOLA CENSUS.

1529 c ImageCalifornia Penny Post Co., San Francisco, 7c Black on Buff entire (34LU11; Frajola Type 3C). Possibly a sample envelope, addressed to Adams & Co. in San Francisco in the hand of H. L. Goodwin, "No. 10" notation at bottom left identical to numbering found on other covers, pen-cancelled 3c Dull Red, Ty. II (11A), sheet margin at bottom, may or may not belong, Very Fine, since Adams & Co. collapsed prior to the start of the California Penny Post Co., it is surmised that this and similar envelopes were addressed as "demonstration" samples, the numbering at lower left is found on such samples and also on genuinely used covers, which we think proves they are "in period" examples, possibly assembled by Goodwin as evidence during his trial (perhaps he was trying to show the different types of franking formats he used) (Image)
