FINE-VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A SCARCE PAIR OF THE COLUSA, LAKE & MENDOCINO FIVE-CENT TELEGRAPH STAMP.

The Colusa, Lake & Mendocino was incorporated in 1875, with 260 miles of line extended through the counties of Colusa, Lake, Mendocino and Napa. Three stamps were issued for prepayment -- 5c, 10c and 25c denominations. Only one example each of the 10c and 25c is known (both offered in this sale) and the 5c is scarce -- particularly in multiples. There is only one full panes of ten known of the 5c.

This pair comes from Positions 7-8. Position 7 is one of only two Type B positions ("5" unconnected to the floral design below) from the pane of 10 (Image)
