Ample to large margins except touched at right, uncancelled, some colored-in scrapes in surface at left, affixed to Mar. 24, 1849 folded letter with "Harriott's Broadway Post Office. Cor. Canal St. New-York" oval handstamp and "Paid" to local street address, the Broadway Post Office stamps were used beginning in 1852 -- there are two recorded genuine 26L1 covers and they do not have the early large oval handstamp (see Stimmell Penny Post article, Jul. 1995, where this cover is listed and described as "unusually early") -- still an extremely rare stamp, of which some very clever counterfeits exist (Caspary had a counterfeit on cover), ex Sloane, Golden and Geisler, offered as a genuine off-cover stamp with Scott Retail of $1,000.00 uncancelled (Image)
