241 og Image2c Green (3). Original gum, lightly hinged, enormous margins all around incl. large portions of adjoining stamps at sides, brilliant color, fresh

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE CONFEDERATE STATES 2-CENT LITHOGRAPH ISSUE IN THE FINEST CONDITION ATTAINABLE.

Collectors of superb classic stamps are advised to carefully consider this stamp. While the typographed and majority of the engraved Confederate issues (Scott 6-7, 8, 11-13) are available in high grades due to the supply of large multiples and sheets, the same is not true for the Lithographed issues (Scott 1-5). Large multiples of the 2c Lithograph are scarce and expensive -- and therefore not conducive to harvesting superb singles.

With 2014 P.S.E. certificate (OGph, XF-Superb 95 Jumbo; SMQ $6,300.00 as 95, $12,600.00 as 98). This is the highest grade awarded by P.S.E. to Scott No. 3 with original gum. Only one other shares this grade (Image)

243   Image2c Red (8). Block of five, carefully cut with ample even margins all around, tied by "Gainesville Ga. Jan. 13" circular datestamp on piece of brown cover, pos. 1 and 2 with light creases, pos. 3 tiny corner abrasion at bottom left, still Extremely Fine for such a rare multiple, the 2c Reds were typically cut into strips of five and singles for the prevailing 10c and 2c rates, blocks for the 10c rate -- because of their odd configuration -- were rarely used, ex Judd and Everett, with 1975 C.S.A., 1994 A.P.S. and 2014 P.F. certificates (Image)

FINE. ONE OF FIVE UNSEVERED PAIRS OF THE 5-CENT BATON ROUGE ROULETTE KNOWN ON COVER. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE GENERAL ISSUE COVER.
