457   ImageHONG KONG, 1871, 30c Violet, "D30" Barred Cancel (LHG10; SG Z9). Clearly struck "D30" barred cancel of British Offices in Hiogo (Kobe), Japan, stamp with light overall toning and small facial scrape at bottom

FINE APPEARING. A CLEAR STRIKE OF THIS RARE CANCEL USED FROM THE BRITISH POST OFFICE IN HIOGO (KOBE), JAPAN.

The British Post Office in Hiogo first began service on January 1, 1868, for foreigners living in Hiogo, Kobe and Osaka. The office closed on November 30, 1879. This cancel is known on most of the values of the 1863-80 Issue and is incredibly rare on any value.
