401 ogbl ImageCAYMAN ISLANDS, 1907-08, -1/2p on 1p Kingston Provisional (17a; SG 17a). Block of twelve (6 x 2), top two rows of the left pane showing plate no. "1" at top left, showing both the Dented (Glover Flaw) and Slotted Frame varieties in the top row (positions R1/P6 and R1/P4), gutter selvage at right, bottom left stamp with small h.r., rest incl. varieties Mint N.H. (hinged in selvage too)

VERY FINE. AN INCREDIBLY RARE POSITION PIECE SHOWING BOTH THE DENTED AND SLOTTED FRAME CONSTANT PLATE FLAW VARIETIES ON THE HALF-PENNY ON ONE-PENNY KINGSTON PROVISIONAL. A MERE 40 EXAMPLES WERE PRINTED.

The Slotted Frame variety, while not listed in either Scott or Stanley Gibbons is of equal rarity as it only appeared once on the sheet in the left pane. An fantastic piece in exhibition quality. The catalogue value of the Dented Frame alone is $950.00 (SG £1,000).

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A CAYMAN ISLANDS RARITY WITH ONLY ABOUT FOUR EXAMPLES KNOWN AND THIS BEING ONE OF THE MORE STRIKING DOUBLES. MISSING FROM EVEN SOME OF THE MOST ADVANCED COLLECTIONS.

The rarity level of this item is highlighted by the fact that neither the Cooley, Maisel or Freeland collections had an example of this stamp with a double surcharge. While this stamp was issued for revenue purposes, a few examples are known postally used. It also exists with an inverted surcharge and surcharge double and both inverted.
