VERY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF ONE OF THE RAREST TWENTIETH CENTURY STAMPS IN THE WORLD.
The first Cameroun stamps under French occupation were issued in 1915. They consisted of a series of stamps from Gabon that were overprinted "Corps Expeditionnaire/Franco Anglais/CAMEROUN". The 10c stamp has the inscription "Congo Francais" at the bottom. However, one sheet of 25 stamps with the inscription "Afrique Equatoriale" was inadvertently put in the run for overprinting, creating this great rarity. The stamps were issued with gum, but the old colonial gum used quickly became heavily tropicalized, resulting in the paper being yellowed and toned. For this reason, many collectors chose to remove the gum.
Signed Champion. With 2007 Roumet and 2009 Sismondo certificates. Yvert €25,500 (Image)
