2091   Image1862-76, Stamp Dealers' Tokens. Six tokens, incl. copper "Jas. Brennan U.S. Postage Stamps 37 Nassau St. Foreign", eagle and "Union For Ever" on obverse, two other Brennans with Gen. George B. McClellan on obverse, one copper and one brass, also brass "Mason & Co. 1870 Coin & Stamp Dealers. No. 139 9th St. Phila." with Washington on obverse (see lot 2633 for Mason & Co. covers), finally two J. W. Scott & Co. centennial tokens depicting Liberty Bell and Minuteman, small chain holes at top of last two, overall Very Fine, a scarce and fascinating group of stamp dealer tokens, James Brennan was one of the first New York stamp dealers, after working for George Hussey's local delivery service he opened an office on the famed Nassau St. in 1861 -- perhaps the first to do so (Image)
