FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE MIXED-FRANKING PRISONER-OF-WAR COVER WITH THE 20-CENT GENERAL ISSUE. ONLY THREE OR FOUR PRISONER-OF-WAR COVERS ARE RECORDED WITH THE 20-CENT STAMP.
We have records of three prisoner-of-war covers with a 20c general issue stamp. One other is known used from Elmira Prison which offers further evidence that there may have been a supply of 20c stamps there. The third is from Fort Delaware (Walske collection, Siegel Sale 988, lot 178). (Image)

VERY FINE. AN OUTSTANDING COMBINATION OF THE SCARCE JOHNSON'S ISLAND TYPE II CENSOR HANDSTAMP AND THE 2-CENT ENGRAVED GENERAL ISSUE ON A PRISONER-OF-WAR COVER.
The Ty. II Johnson's Island censor handstamp was used only in 1865 and fewer than 30 examples known. This cover was exchanged via Fortress Monroe and Richmond, where it was delivered. As such the 2c drop rate applied. Perhaps four of five 2c prisoner-of-war covers exist
