2480 ogbl ImageCOLOMBIA, Antioquia, 1886, 2-1/2c Black on Orange, Erased Cliché (56). Partial bottom sheet-margin block of nine, positions 23-25/33-35/43-45, with the center position 34 displaying a blank space, being an erased cliché which quite likely represented a 5c denomination according to the Antioquia handbook by Juan Santa Maria (pages 116-117), full balanced margins all around, quite fresh, top half of block still retains its original gum, three creases and a couple of trivial pin holes, none of which affect its Very Fine appearance, only one sheet and three blocks containing this desirable error are reported (Image)

Single example paying the local rate in Medellin, with three mostly full margins, fourth at left slightly cutting, tied on small cover by purple Medellin” in oval postmark, additional strike at bottom right of cover, stamp apparently was first affixed at bottom left of cover and canceled there (with trace of original cancel), but fell off and was re-affixed slightly above original position and canceled again, most of backflap missing

FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE COVER, BEING ONE OF ONLY TEN COVERS RECORDED BEARING STAMPS OF THE 1886-1888 TRANSITION ISSUE AND THE SOLE RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THE 2-1/2-CENTAVOS VALUE ON COVER. AN IMPORTANT POSTAL HISTORY RARITY OF ANTIOQUIA.

Top sheet-margin block of nine, positions 3-5/13-15/23-25, with the center position 14 showing a cliché error erased in the center, with remnant of the 50c numerals showing in the corners, known as the doughnut” block, clear to mostly large margins, original gum, a few h.r.'s, light horizontal crease in the top sheet margin only, Very Fine, only 120 sheets of the second state with this striking error were printed and far fewer still survive today, illustrated on page 48 of Dr. Gene Scott's Colombian States handbook, ex Dr. Scott (Image)

A remarkable vertical strip of three with mostly ample to large margins (slight staining on top stamp), used on a judicial wrapper from Pacora to Rionegro, paying the 15c rate up to 25 grams, manuscript Pacora 1888” cancel across strip, some edge faults to cover and slightly refolded, Fine appearance, despite the aforementioned flaws this cover is extremely rare and represents the largest known multiple of this value on cover, illustrated on page 122 of Historia Postal de Antioquia by Juan Santa Maria, ex Santa Maria, with 2009 Bortfeldt certificate (Image)

Top right corner example with large sheet margin at bottom, used to pay correct 5c single domestic letter rate on cover to Cali, tied by bold strike of "Correos Nacionales/Feb 5 1892/Cali” oval postmark, however the Antioquia Departmental postage stamps were only valid within the Department and not nationally, hence the cover was marked for postage due with violet T” in circle handstamp, cover with light water staining and opened irregularly at top right, Fine appearance, in addition to being one of only ten covers recorded franked with this issue, this is the only taxed domestic cover with this stamp from Antioquia, with 2013 Bortfeldt certificate (Image)

2489 ogbl ImageCOLOMBIA, Antioquia, 1886-1888, 1c to 2p Transition Eagle Coat of Arms Issue Multiples (55/68). Exceptional group of nine different values, most being either the largest known, or second largest known, unused multiples, all with original gum, includes 1c Green on Pink block of six, 1c Red on Violet corner margin block of nine, 2-1/2c Lilac on Pale Lilac marginal block of ten, 5c Ultramarine on Buff marginal block of eight (believed to be the only multiple recorded of this value, ex Dr. Scott), 5c Red on Green block of four, 10c Brown on Green marginal block of thirty, 20c Dark Violet on Buff marginal block of eight showing part of erased tenth vertical row, 50c Yellow Brown on Buff block of four and a 2p Green on Violet block of four, couple of the multiples with small faults such as a crease or a marginal tear, but all nicely margined and of Very Fine appearance or better, an extremely difficult group to assemble, Scans of the entire collection (1.0mb) can be found at http://www.siegelauctions.com/2014/????/pdf/????.pdf (Image)

2490 ogbl ImageCOLOMBIA, Antioquia, 1888, 2-1/2c and 5c Black on Yellow Medellin Provisionals, Se-tenant Block of Six, Setting I (69, 70). Without gum as issued, being the bottom three rows of the issued typeset sheetlet of eight, top four stamps are 5c values, while the bottom two stamps are the 2-1/2c values, large margins all around incl. sheet margins on three sides, bright and fresh, Extremely Fine, very rare as nearly all sheetlets were cut apart before sale, this being one of only five se-tenant multiples known, these interesting stamps were produced to meet a shortage of stamps in Medellin (Image)
