2213 ogbl ImageKUWAIT, 1948-49, 3a on 3p Violet, Pair with One Surcharge Albino (77a; SG 69a). Bottom left plate no. 32 block of 25, the error being the bottom left stamp which is completely missing ink and leaving only an albino impression, stamp above with partially missing "3 Annas", right two examples with partially missing "Kuwait" and "3 Annas", the immediate right stamp with the value nearly completely missing, bottom row being sensibly reinforced with a hinge, selvage edges with some creasing and small tears of no significance

VERY FINE. THE UNIQUE ERROR BLOCK AND THE KEY TO A KUWAIT COLLECTION. A BRITISH COMMONWEALTH RARITY OF GREAT IMPORTANCE.

A total of five sheets were found with varying degrees and stages of the error affecting the same bottom left positions such as this block. Two mint examples remain, the example offered here and a strip of four. The remaining three sheets went unnoticed and were subsequently used. Singles and pairs, while very rare, have been recorded. This block is illustrated in The Postal Agencies in Eastern Arabia and the Gulf by Neil Donaldson.
