2145 Pbl ImageGUATEMALA, 1881, 1c Black & Green, Proof, Center Inverted (21P var). Block of four on thin paper, vivid colors, sharp impression

EXTREMELY FINE. AN INCREDIBLY RARE BLOCK WITH INVERTED CENTER AS ONLY ONE SHEET IS KNOWN.

The Quetzel is synonymous with Guatemala. Not only is it the national bird of Guatemala and graces numerous issues of their stamps but since 1925, it has been used to name the Guatemalan currency.

Unlike other denominations of this issue, the 1c was not issued with an inverted center. We have been unable to find similar examples in multiples of this size (Image)
