562   Image5c Orange Brown, Ty. II (30). Pretty shade nicely complemented by green 13-bar grid cancel, small thin spot, light vertical crease

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. THE 1861 5-CENT ORANGE BROWN IS EXTREMELY RARE WITH A GREEN CANCELLATION. THIS IS THE FIRST WE HAVE OFFERED SINCE KEEPING COMPUTERIZED RECORDS.

The color of this grid cancel is true green, not a bluish-green or adulterated green. The use of green ink to cancel any 5c 1857-61 Issue stamp is very unusual, but its presence on a 5c Orange Brown, Scott 30, is extraordinarily serendipitous. A Power Search review failed to find another Scott 30 with a green cancel in all of our auctions from 1994 onwards plus all of our Rarities sales.

With 1986 P.F. certificate. Listed but unpriced in Scott with a green cancel. (Image)
