VERY FINE AND CHOICE PAIR OF THE 24-CENT 1861 STEEL BLUE WITH VIVID CONTRASTING RED GRID CANCELLATIONS.
With 1987 and 1992 P.F. certificates (Image)
EXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE 1861 24-CENT VIOLET ON THIN PAPER HAS BEEN GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E., WHICH IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED.
The 24c 1861 exists in four basic shades of Violet: Dark Violet (August 1861 trial printing, formerly Scott 60); Violet on Thin Paper (August-September 1861 regular issue, Scott 70c -- the shade offered here); Pale Gray Violet (1861 regular issue, Scott 70d) and Blackish Violet (ca. 1863 printing, Scott 78c).
With 1991 and 1992 P.F. and 2014 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $14,000.00). This is the highest grade awarded and only four others share it. (Image)
VERY FINE USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1862 24-CENT VIOLET ON THIN PAPER.
This distinctive Violet shade is the so-called "Cincinnati Violet," and it has the appropriate blue grid cancel used at that post office.
Purple backstamp. With 1985 and 1991 P.F. certificates (Image)
EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB USED PAIR OF THE 1861 24-CENT VIOLET ON THIN PAPER. MULTIPLES OF THIS SHADE ARE VIRTUALLY NON-EXISTENT.
A Power Search review indicates we have never offered a block, strip or another pair since keeping computerized records. Given the superior centering of the pair offered here, we wonder whether this rare intact artifact will survive another month.
With 1987 and 1991 P.F. certificates. Unlisted as a multiple in Scott. Scott Retail as singles (Image)
