Rich color, used with 1c Blue (63) in a very deep shade, tied by "New-York Sep. ? 1861" duplex datestamp on College of Physicians and Surgeons corner card cover to Rockford Ill., Very Fine, a nice combination of the late 1861 3c Pink and the 1c paying the carrier fee on a corner card cover, the College of Physicians and Surgeons became the official medical school of Columbia University only one year before this cover was mailed (Image)

Used with 2c Black (73), tied by target cancels on 3c Pink entire to Bremen, Germany, with "Paid, Whiting & Co.'s Feather River Express" express company printed frank, neat strike of "La Porte Cal. Feb. 4, 1864" double-circle datestamp, red "N. York Paid Hamb. Pkt. 12 Mar. 5" transit and receiving backstamps, 2c stamp lifted to determine markings beneath ("Paid 3c") and hinged back where it originated, cleaned, address strengthened and some other cosmetic improvements, still Very Fine appearance and an extremely rare California express cover to Europe, Whiting & Co. was in operation during this period and this was carried by them to the post office at La Porte, California, where it entered the mails for Germany (Image)
