Latter with plate no. 131583 selvage at bottom, used with 6c Golden Brown (487) on 2c Green on buff entire (U20), tied by "Angeles, Papanga P.I. May 21" duplexes, unaddressed, 20c significant tear, otherwise Very Fine and colorful, also incl. second cover with 16c Dark Blue (480), tied by "Tacloban, Leyte Dec. 27 (1944)" duplex datestamp on cover to a U.S. Army private, bottom right corner of stamp torn off and re-affixed, otherwise Very Fine and scarce used on cover, only 24 are recorded in the Brewster census, with 2003 A.P.S. certificate before the damage occurred (Image)

802   ImagePHILIPPINES, 1943, 2c Blue, Free Philippines Guerrilla Postal Service (Unlisted). Tied by purple oval "Posted in the Free Philippines Mindanao Guerilla Area, M.D. No. 10, 6 AUG 1945" datestamp and used on 6c Air Post entire to military address at San Francisco, matching "Tenth Military Dist., Free Philippines, Censored" oval handstamp, with original enclosure dated June 30, 1945 from Marcelo Patso (Provincial Governor) thanking recipient for his service, some creases affect indicia and Guerrilla stamp, some toning, enclosure with uneven edge at one side but not affecting any contents

FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE USE OF THE 2-CENTAVO GUERRILLA POSTAL SERVICE ISSUE ON A COVER FROM THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNOR.

During World War II, this stamp was issued for use on the island of Mindanao. Only 500 stamps were printed. 36 covers are known, but many are unaddressed or of obvious souvenir character. This cover, actually used postally from the provincial governor, is a great rarity.

Accompanied by an American Philatelist article discussing this issue. Also accompanied by unused vertical pair of this issue, small flaws. (Image)
