Willoughby at Alexandria Va., asking for help being exchanged, second an inner cover from Tarbell to East Lansing N.Y., with original letter datelined "Military Prison Danville Va., December 6th, 1864," contents again refer to prospects for exchange, manuscript "Per Flag of Truce", censored with "Ex", "Old Point Comfort Va. Jan. 17" double-circle datestamp and "Due 6" in circle handstamp, Very Fine cover and pair of letters, Doctor (his first name) Tarbell was captured by Confederate cavalry on September 21, 1864 near Winchester Va., he was taken to Libby Prison, then transferred to Salisbury, North Carolina, then to Danville Prison and then back to Libby again on Feb. 18, 1865 before being paroled a few days later, the major portion of the Tarbell correspondence is at the University of Michigan Library (Image)

Jun. 17" double-circle datestamp, (likely in error for "Jan."), inconsequential perf flaw from placement at edge, Very Fine, a scarce prisoner-of-war cover franked with a pair of 2c Black Jacks and censored by the prison commander, R. C. 377 c Image3c Rose (65). Tied by "Memphis Ten. May 12 '64?" double-circle datestamp on captured red and blue 7-Star Confederate Flag Patriotic cover (F7-22) to Winterset Ia., manuscript "Captured at Jackson Miss., May 14th '63" at top, slightly reduced at right and light soiling, the Memphis datestamp is heavily redrawn in ink (so much so we cannot be sure the stamp originated), still Very Fine and unusual captured Patriotic use, Jackson fell to Union forces under the command of General Ulysses S. Grant during the Vicksburg Campaign, on May 14, 1863 -- this cover was captured that day and was later posted at Memphis under Union occupation, most likely in 1864 (Image)
