1037 c Image(Agency of the American Post Office at Niagara, Canada, to New York, 1803) "Niagara 3rd March 1803". Manuscript postmark on folded letter datelined "Niagara 24th Feby. 1803" and addressed to New York, manuscript "25" (cents) over-500 miles rate, Very Fine, it is difficult to conclusively determine that this cover originated as an Agency of the U.S. Post Office use from Niagara-on-the-Lake (Canada) rather than from the U.S. post office at Fort Niagara (U.S.), we believe it to be a cross-border use based on two factors: a cover with the same handwriting with a U.S. Agency Post Office straightline was offered in Frajola Sale 14, lot 79, in addition mail was accepted at the Agency post office every other Thursday for forwarding to the U.S., March 3, 1803 was a Thursday, and this could explain the one-week time difference between the dateline and the postmark -- the sender simply waited to bring it to the post office until the day it would be forwarded or the postmaster waited to postmark it until the day of forwarding (Image)

W. Hands DPM, Sandwich 26 Decr. 1805", Very Fine, an extremely rare cross-border cover with ferriage rate sent from Albany to Michigan Territory via Niagara-on-the-Lake and Sandwich (Windsor) in Canada, Frederick Bates was a Justice of the Territorial Supreme Court for Michigan Territory, Detroit was destroyed by a massive fire in 1805, the year this letter was sent, ex Hahn (Image)
