1965 c Image3c Dull Red, Ty. III (26). Choice centering with centerline margin at right, tied by 5-bar grid in octagonal frame, same cancel used to tie Breckenridge three-quarter portrait and "Equality of State Rights" purple label, Rickey Mallory & Co. of Cincinnati imprint, "Montgomery Ala. Oct. 17, 1860" circular datestamp (18 days prior to election) on buff cover to Kinsale Va., sender's notation below label "Breck.", Milgram JBK-1 (this cover illustrated on p. 124 from Walcott sale photo), neatly docketed, slightly reduced at left, Very Fine, Rickey Mallory & Co. published a wide variety of campaign cartoons, envelopes and labels, their Breckinridge label is very scarce, and this tied example is almost certainly unique -- used in October 1860 at Montgomery, where four months later the seven seceded states would form the new Confederate States government -- ex Walcott and Knapp (Image)

Manuscript Meadows of Dan, Virginia, postmark and "Paid 5" Condederate rate on cover with John Bell three-quarter portrait with flags, eagle and shield, Raynor imprint, Milgram JBL-14, addressed to "Mr. William Smith, Lewisburg, Greenbrier County, Virginia, in care of Captain J. T. Lawson, 50 Regiment, Floyd's Brigade", edgewear, still Fine and of the greatest rarity, this Raynor format was used for other candidates, but the John Bell design is extremely rare -- this use in the Confederate postal system with military address is probably unique (Image)
