FINE APPEARANCE. A VERY RARE COMBINATION AND THE ONLY RECORDED 24-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ON COVER TO SWITZERLAND.
Ex Rudy. (Image)
VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A UNIQUE USE OF THE 30-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE ON AN ILLUSTRATED ENVELOPE FROM MISSOURI TO SWITZERLAND.
This was carried on the HAPAG Saxonia by Closed Mail via England. On May 1, 1870, the rate was reduced from 15c to 10c. It is unclear whether this was prepaid as a double or triple rate.
The Missouri state seal on this cover is the same design found on the St. Louis postmaster's provisional stamps. The bears were intended to symbolize Missourians' rugged durability.
With 1958 and 2000 P.F. certificates. (Image)
