Dec. 10" circular datestamp, used with British Columbia, 1867, 2c on 3p Brown (8), tied by "35" in barred oval cancel and Portland circular datestamp, "Victoria B.C. Nov. 29, 1870" origin backstamp, receiving backstamp, slightly reduced at left just barely affecting circular datestamp, the British Columbia stamp with pulled perf at bottom

VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE USE OF THE 2-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE ON A COVER ORIGINATING IN BRITISH COLUMBIA AND SENT VIA UNITED STATES MAILS TO ONTARIO, CANADA.

The 2p British Columbia stamp paid the rate to Portland. The 6c in 1869 stamps paid the rate from the United States to Ontario, Canada.

York Steamship Nov. 11" circular datestamp, clear "St. Thomas 30/10 1869" circular datestamp, boxed "P.P." handstamp, neat "St. Thomas Paq. Fr. B No. 2 30 Oct. 69" octagonal backstamp, missing part of top flap, some edgewear affects 10c stamp

A FINE APPEARING AND EXTREMELY RARE MIXED-FRANKING COVER CARRIED FROM ST. THOMAS TO HAVANA BY FRENCH MAIL STEAMER.

This cover was carried on the French steamer Martinique to Havana and then by steamship to New York. The French stamps paid the double 60-centimes rate (7.5-15 grams), but only 10c was necessary for the single half-ounce U.S. rate.
