Oct. 14, 1857" circular datestamps on folded letter from Matanzas, Cuba, to New York, via Havana and Charleston, sender's bold blue oval handstamp, clear strike of "STEAM-SHIP" in oval handstamp applied at Charleston -- this marking was later used on blockade-run mail during the Civil War, but is very rare on inbound steamship mail from Cuba -- docketing indicates two letters enclosed, thus double 10c rate, 3c strip with badly broken crease, still presentable and a very rare use (Image)

Jul. 13, 1857" circular datestamp on front only from Havana, Cuba, to Montreal, Canada, one flap intact with Montreal Jul. 20 receiving backstamp, slightly toned, reported to be the only example of contract steamship mail to Canada via Charleston (one other known via Savannah), which allows some forgiveness for the missing flaps, certainly presentable for exhibition (Image)
