at upper right and manuscript "Unpaid", vertical file fold well away from stamp and markings, some slight soilingVERY FINE. THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED USE OF THE 1847 ISSUE FROM SUGAR CREEK, WISCONSIN. MORE IMPORTANT IS THE EXTREMELY
UNUSUAL CONFIGURATION OF THE TOWN MARKING WITH INTEGRAL ROMAN NUMERAL RATE. This is the only reported use of the 1847 Issue from Sugar Creek, Wisconsin. This cover was the subject of an article in Chronicle 62, which notes "The writer had
been to Milwaukee a day or two previous and had encountered there an old acquaintance from New York State. The Sugar Creek man was writing to a mutual friend to learn what attitude the folks back in Cohoes, and most particularly the Milwaukee man's
wife, now held toward him. It may be presumed that the Milwaukeean had left home under a cloud of public and private disapproval. It also is a fair guess that he provided the stamp when he asked the other fellow to write the letter. The single
