1694   ImageAppleton Postage Stamp Album. Published by D. Appleton & Co., title page "Album for Postage and Other Stamps, American and Foreign. MDCCCLXIII" (1863)," cover is dark brown with hubbed spine and gilt decorations, 208 pages with gilt edges, all stamps removed, significant cover edge and corner wear, first few pages including title page detached and with broken edges, some page thinning from removal of hinges, still a collectible and rare early stamp album, a smaller edition was published in Dec. 1862, with two copies known to exist (one in green, the other in red), twelve copies of this edition were reported in the American Philatelist (Mar. 1988) and probably no more than 20 exist (Image)

Attractive five-page folio of music composed by Arthur O'Leary of Boston and published by Oliver Ditson & Co., front page consists of lithographs of 43 stamps from around the world incl. U.S., Hawaii, Hong Kong, British Guiana, Trinidad, Ceylon, German States, Cape of Good Hope and others, published in 1864, some slight wear along left edge and few age spots, generally fresh and Very Fine, The Stamp Collector's Magazine of Feb. 1, 1863 mentions a British version as "The most successful of the season, and nightly encored, The title page is beautifully embellished in Colours, with postage stamps of foreign nations, Sent free for twelve stamps" (Image)

Extensive and valuable collection housed in a Scott National album, sparse coverage until 1879 with lower values and a few used in the early issues, collection begins in earnest with the 1888 Bank Notes and beyond with virtual completeness less the rarities and a few of the highest denominations, Small Bank Notes complete to 90c less the 30c, including Mint N.H. Nos. 227 and 229, Columbians complete to $5.00, dollar values original gum or disturbed gum, 1894 unwatermarked Bureaus complete to 50c, watermarked 1895 Bureaus including the $1.00 Ty.
