1933 c ImageBaton Rouge La., 5c Green & Carmine, Maltese Cross Border (11X2). Margins all around, tied by partial strike of "Baton Rouge La. Nov. 18, 1861" circular datestamp on yellow cover to Edmund McIlhenny, inventor of Tabasco sauce, care of Hon. D.D. Avery in New Iberia La., cover slightly reduced at top and soiling (faint toned spot on stamp), otherwise Fine, a nice use to McIlhenny who owned a salt-mining business on Avery Island, after the Civil War he returned to his home and used a crop of capsicum hot peppers and the native salt to begin production of Tabasco sauce, at first bottling it in discarded cologne bottles, McIlhenny was married to the daughter of Daniel Dudley Avery, Avery Island is a salt dome named after the family and remains the source of Tabasco sauce today (Image)
