Unusual Uses on Cover including Turned and Part Paid
Lot Sym. Lot Description
2334 c Image5c Red Brown (1). Large margins to just in, intense shade and impression, stamp affixed at lower right corner and cancelled by blue grid, matching "Cumberland Md. Sep. 27" circular datestamp on blue 1847 folded letter to Baltimore Md., vertical file fold well away from stamp, fresh and Fine, it is very unusual for the stamp to be affixed at lower right, the practice of affixing the stamp at the upper right caught on quickly, with 1983 P.F. certificate (Image)

2336 c Image5c Red Brown (1). Large margins, bright color, tied by blue numeral "5" in circle cancel and matching "Baltimore Md. Mar. 30" circular datestamp on cover addressed to the care of General S. Van Rensselaer in Albany N.Y., stamp with additional lightened manuscript cancel, still fresh and Very Fine, an unusual use, the distance between Baltimore and Albany was just over 300 miles, so this should have 10c postage, either it was paid 10c with stamp and cash, or perhaps it was allowed to pass to the well-known General Van Rensselaer, illustrated and described in an article in Chronicle 222 (copy accompanies), ex Brown and Boker, with 2001 P.F. certificate (Image)
