2015 c ImageJuly 1, 1845, First Day of 5c and 10c Rates. Two covers, first with bold blue "Philadelphia Pa. Jul. 1" circular datestamp with matching "10" in circle, crossed out in manuscript and re-rated "5" for under 300 miles, on folded letter to Springfield Mass., 1845 dateline and docketing, Extremely Fine, a wonderful use showing both new rates, second with red "New-York Jul. 1" circular datestamp, manuscript "5" rate on folded letter datelined June 23, 1845 to Norwich N.Y., manuscript "Mail July" at bottom, apparently held back from mailing until the new rate took effect (saving the recipient 13-3/4 cents), Very Fine, an ideal pair of covers for the opening page of a Postmasters' Provisionals or 1847 Issue collection (Image)
