"1/1/65" docketing, wax seal on back, inconsequential small wax stain at bottom and small sealed top flap tear

VERY FINE 2-CENT RED JACK STRIP OF FIVE CANCELLED IN BLUE ON COVER -- SENT TO THE "SIEGE TRAIN" ON JAMES ISLAND IN THE CHARLESTON HARBOR.

The South Carolina "Siege Train" was a special force of C.S.A. artillery that operated from James Island in an attempt to break the Union hold of Charleston Harbor. Captain Mordecai was assistant quartermaster and son-in-law of prominent Charleston resident Moses Mordecai (Image)
