US 19th & 20th Century Stamps and Covers continued...
LotNo. Symbol Lot Description
21 image551//610. USA Fourth Bureau Issues on paper. 6 ounces of used Fourth Bureau stamps on and off paper. Lots of 1c and 2c, but there are other denoms as well. Includes full perf, coils, and booklet examples. Most singles, some multiples. According to the donor, Dave Hull, a North Carolina dealer and member of USDA, APS, and USSS (and a Type II diabetic!), “Over the last 10 years, I’ve accumulated ‘tons’ of US and worldwide hoards. I’ve sorted out the USA regs, commems, etc., by era for this auction. I did not pick for varieties with a perf gauge, et al., check precancels, perfins, or anything else-- AND they don’t appear to have been picked by anyone else, either. Most are just envelope tearoffs that were put into envelopes or bags, forgotten, and then sold to me decades later by uninterested heirs. I did discard stamps with obvious faults—torn, stained, perfs cut off, etc., and I trimmed excessive paper, but that’s the extent of my look. A minority of the stamps no doubt have small faults, and centering is ‘random. These Fourth Bureaus await your examination. Happy hunting! (Image1) Est. $80 SOLD for $44.00

27 image803//832. USA Prexie Issues used accumulation off/on paper. 1,665 Prexie stamps, 1,225 off paper, 440 on paper. Singles and multiples from sheets, a number of coils and booklet pane singles. Some precancels, a few perfins. By denomination: [# of stamps, (included # of precancels)]: 1/2c: 98 (86). 1c: 297 (164). 1 1/2c: 153 (48). 2c: 285 (16). 3c:338 (6); 4c: 22 (7). 4 1/2c: 9 (7); 5c: 158 (6). 6c: 52 (3). 7c: 17 (0). 8c: 13 (3); 9c: 11 (1). 10c: 52 (2). 11c: 4 (1). 12c: 13 (1). 13c: 4 (1).14c: 4 (1).15c: 17 (0). 16c: 4 (0). 17c: 4 (2). 18c: 4 (0). 19c: 2 (0). 20c: 39 (1). 21c: 2 (1). 22c: 1 (0). 24c: 4 (0). 25c: 26 (1). 30c: 12 (1). 50c: 6 (0). $1.00: 14 (0). While meticulously culling the dogs, tightly trimming the on-paper, and carefully counting-- yet picking nary a stamp for myself-- I noted: (a) Among the precancels, a 1/2c Franklin "CONCEPTION JUNCTION, MO" (you get 10 or 11 copies); and a 17c Johnson "BOWERSTON, OHIO." A 17c Johnson precancel?! (b) Among Fun cancels: two 1 1/2c Marthas on piece, postmarked "WILMERDING, PA;" and a fancy target cancel on a 5c Monroe. (c) Among my fave perfins: a 14c Pierce perfin, "PPR," pair on piece in XF condition (a 14c perfin? In XF condition?!!). (d) Speaking of condition, the Prexies are "challenging." in the Condition Rarity Dept., I only had time to search one denom., so I chose to look at one of the super toughies of the Prexies, the 2c Adams. They are exceedingly scarce well centered, etc. I am pleased to report that, among a number of nice examples, in this very lot, there's one perfin and one coil pair, both in EXTREMELY FINE condition. I had a lot of fun with this lot and I hope you do, too. . Estimate $100. Donated by David F. Hull Stamp Company. (Image1) Est. $100 SOLD for $12.00
