882 /o/ Superb compilation of specialist collections, 1872-1944, from a longtime scholar of Japanese philately comes this master course in a box; includes better single items, such as Scott #17a, 36 var., 46-47 & 50 (J.S.C.A. #13b, 32, 36-38); a cancel study on the 1875 Bird Series (12s to 45s complete, all syllabic 1); an 1876-92 Koban collection; 1899-1907 Chrysanthemum compilation; 1914-37 Tazawa specialized collection, plus 62 covers of Japanese issues used in Korea over the 1923-44 period; numerous I.S.J.P certificates, useful duplication for study, with much interesting throughout, Fine to Very Fine with much better, definitely worth your time to inspect.

883 imageAmazing accumulation, 1960s-80s, with astronomical face value; several albums, binders, stockpages and glassines hold a wide range of modern issues, all fresh as the day they were purchased; one small stockbook has issues from the 1950s to '70s (most duplicated, some imprint singles), but the vast majority of stamps here are from the 1980s and early 1990s, with denominations of 40y to 80y dominating; tallying just one album (1987-93) plus several stockpages gave us a face value total of nearly 50,000 yen—and that's about 20% of the volume in this lot (and doesn't figure in the several sheet files that are here); a magnificent lot for the modern collector, or for the dealer for sale or for postage; definitely one to view, o.g., never hinged, Very Fine.

884 imagePostal History compendium, 1905-50s, in three binders plus many items loose and individually sleeved; items range from postal stationery to official Ministry post cards commemorating the Russo-Japanese War and the visit of the Great White Fleet, to picture post cards (many used) and commercial covers, to an interesting (with correspondence) project to record and obtain Army Post Office cancels from each nation participating in the Korean War (including surprises such as Colombia and Ethiopia); plus Japan Sea Post covers offering post office opening day cancels from the Chichibu-, Mishima-, Tatsuta- and Yokohama-Marus (second-day for the Heian-Maru); first-day I.J. 886 imagePostal History panoply, 1906-43, a lovely assortment of well over 150 items from Meiji to Showa; the collection, corner-mounted (some loosening) on Scott pages, consists of a majority part postal cards, but there are enough postcards, covers and postal forms to whet your appetite as well; we note a 2s-franked but uncancelled cover to the U.S. Consul in Nagasaki, several covers or cards with forwarding strips, a military cover, a letter card, domestic and foreign usages (with corresponding rates), a range of cancel types (including commemorative cancels) and auxiliary markings, usages from Korea, etc., etc.; in addition, there are various stamps (mostly singles) off-cover showing partial or full cancel strikes, a Japan-to-US Customs form, and more. The occasional condition issue, but generally Very Fine on the whole, well worth a careful inspection.

888 imageJapanese Occupations, Selection of five covers, 1908-35, four items from Korea, one from Tsingtao, all franked by Japanese stamps; Korean items consist of a picture post card sent to Ireland plus three covers, one sent internally (Seoul to Pyong Yang), one "via Siberia" to Scotland, plus one franked by commemoratives to Stanley Gibbons' New York office, each cover's postage tied by one or another Japanese-style comb cancel; the Tsingtao cover is from the American Consulate in the city, the corner card additionally reading "Sanitary Report", addressed to The Secretary of the Treasury/(For the United States Public Health and Marine Hospital Bureau), the 10s postage tied by a Tsingtau I.J.P.O. foreign comb with Kobe/Japan comb alongside, Very Fine overall, an interesting and attractive group.
