1696 13var imageConfederate States, 1863, 20¢ green, trial plate proof (Scott 13var), Archer and Daly original trial die impression on a Confederate steel plate consisting of six images of 20¢ green (Scott #13), 10¢ blue (Scott #9), and part of a 25¢ note of Planters Insurance Trust and Loan Company, print was made from the plate in greenish black on 6" x 9" manila sheet by August Dietz in the 1920's, printing was reportedly about 100 of which 50 were inserted in the 1929 Deluxe Edition of The Postal Service of the Confederate States of America, scarce and interesting impression of this early trial plate proof; minor edge flaws and vertical crease at far left, Very Fine and unusual, an important piece of Confederate postal history.

1703 43929 imageCanal Zone, 1904, 1¢-10¢ overprinted U.S. complete set, cover to Jamaica (Scott 4-8), f-vf, tied by purple 7-bar CANAL ZONE cancel with matching Cristobal, Dec. 12, 1904, circular town postmark on neat small cover with PANAMA RAILROAD COMPANY corner card, to Jamaica, endorsed "Per s/s Antillian" with Colon, Dec. 12, waving flag, TRANSITO, backstamp and Kingston, Dec. 17, receiver, very unusual foreign usage, lovely five color franking, scarce and desirable; couple of insignificant stains, 5¢ with natural straight edge, a Very Fine cover, these stamps were taken off sale on Dec. 11, 1904, and replaced by Panama overprinted stamps on the 12th, as a result of the taft agreement, this is one of the Last Known Uses for these stamps.
