882 P 70TC6 image1861, 24¢ dark violet, "Premiere Gravure", trial color proof on stamp paper, perf'd and gummed (Scott 70TC6), o.g., hinged, stunning example of the rare Dark Violet shade trial printing; a magnificent top quality example of this major U.S. rarity which has always been known as Scott #60, until the publisher's of the Scott catalog decided to reclassify them as trial color proofs and list them only in the proof section of the Specialized catalog; as this Dark Violet issue is every bit as rare as Scott #70c, the violet 24 cent Washington which catalogs for $35,000, we feel that this rarity should be valued at approximately the same, not the ridiculously low price of $15,000 that Scott currently assigns to this stamp; a wonderful opportunity for the astute collector to purchase this seldom offered stamp at a price well below its true value; faint crease at top is inconsequential, otherwise Very Fine, a mere 20 or so examples are currently known to exist, with 1989 P.F. certificate.
