835 /o   imageEurope (Eastern), Eastern Europe, Collection, 1880s-1960s. Two Scott green binders with Specialty pages for "Eastern and Southern Europe" (Albania through Montenegro), this is a beautifully selected and intact collection built over many years, there are many items in the $10-30 range and many hundreds of stamps mint, some never hinged, and postally used, this area is sometimes overlooked but there are some good items, rarities are as usual not certified and sold "as is,"the highlights include: Albania has a lot of nice material (rarities are probably forgeries), but most of the pre-WWII stamps are there, along with many post-WWII through 1960s; Bulgaria is extremely strong in the classic era and there are dozens of $10-30 stamps missing in most collections and often overlooked, really high total catalogue value here, and it continues into the mid-1960s, also including some key nineteenth-century postage dues; Crete has several dozen stamps in sound condition; Croatia virtually complete through 1945, including many better-valued semi-postal souvenir sheets which appear never hinged; Eastern Rumelia is extremely well represented; Epirus with more than two dozen stamps; Greece is absolutely loaded in the nineteenth century mint and used for the Hermes-Head fans, some Olympics, twentieth century is well represented and from 1940 to mid-1980s is almost complete with all apparently never hinged from mid-1960s, loads of BOB including some better air mails; Jugoslavia is loaded, Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1918-20 appear to be complete mint by Scott numbers; dozens and dozens of Slovenia and other plebiscites, general issues for Jugoslavia through later-1960s, including many semi-postals and other BOB; Montenegro looks virtually complete mint; If there ever was a "sleeper" collection, this is it! Often overlooked area as not "sexy" like western European countries, there are many hidden gems and solid money-makers here; can be broken into dozens of smaller collections for online retail, there are also numerous great opportunites for collectors to jump into anew areas that have been overlooked in the post Soviet-era shakeup; take a look at this one, and keep your catalogue handy! The prices might surprise you; a real "Diamond in the rough"! generally Fine to Very Fine.
