117 o 8 imageGreat Britain, 1841, 1d red brown (SG 8), mounted collection of 114 stamps, including seven pairs, all according to the collector, identified by plate; includes one example purportedly attributed to each of the 7 "Black plates" used to print the 1d red brown (1b, 2, 5 and 8-11), plus an additional 14 stamps said to be from plate 11, 12 of them identified as top row stamps AA-AL; of the remaining 93 stamps, all but nine are said to be from 1849-50 plates utilizing Alphabet 1 check letters. As for condition, there are a few unobtrusive faults scattered throughout, but virtually all have at least three margins and most have four, ranging from tight to oversize. A great lot for the specialist. Our SG value does not include premiums for plates, Maltese Cross cancel, or plate varieties.
