Special stamps known in Switzerland as "soldier's stamps" were issued to the troops for free during the First & Second World Wars. This was presumably to help keep them in touch with family and friends back home. Each unit had its own design, Fine to Very Fine.

749   imageThailand, Cinderella Selection, 1942-76. Six sheets of official labels plus one postal forgery on envelope. The earliest item is a sheet of twenty 1942 Officially Sealed labels followed by three different sheets of ten each of a Military label first issued in 1943 plus a fourth sheet of ten for the Air Force. The last sheet of 30 was issued in 1955 during a border dispute with Cambodia. The last item is a (Scott #753) postal forgery affixed to a blue envelope mailed from Udon Thani in 1976 and addressed to Nakae with a triangular "T" Postage Due handstamp and Officially Sealed label on reverse. Definitely, a fascinating group of unusual material, Fine to Very Fine.

The collection starts with 1863 "Tughra" Monogram of Sultan Abdul-Aziz (1-2 & 5-7, used), 1865 Crescent & Star (8-13, used), 1869 Overprints (20-26, used), followed by several other sets in mint & used condition. We also noted Ottoman Empire sets, including 1886 (73, mint) & 1890 (87-91, mint). The 20th century section begins with Tughra sets with or without overprints, followed by 1911 Monastir (165-82), Pristina (165a-82a), Salonika (165b-82b) & Uskub (165c-82c) Sultan's Visit sets in mint condition. We also noted 1914 Views of Constantinople & Sultan Mohammed V (254-70, used), 1914 Abolition of Capitulations (278-84, used), followed by overprinted sets issued in the 1915-16 period, including 288-339, 340-44, 345-49, 350-54 & 355-419, and then by a valuable section with 1917 "Beetle" overprints and surcharges, that truly deserves your attention. In a British old-time album with slipcase, including Kiev perforated and imperforate stamps with types I, II & III handstamps, followed by Kharkov perforated and imperforates with types II & III handstamps, and then by Poltava with type I handstamps. We also noted Odessa perforated and imperforate stamps with types I to IV handstamps, plus some examples with type V & VI handstamps that deserve your attention and were classified as subtypes by the collector. There is a Katerynoslav section mostly with type I handstamps, followed by Podolia stamps with type I & II handstamps, and then by 1919 provisionals, 1920 Vienna Issue, plus some 1922-23 U.S.S.R. overprints and semipostals for the victims of the famine, plus 1919 Russian Levant stamps for the use of the Russian Navigation Company in Odessa, apparently ordered by order of the Ukranian Government.
