1212 B154 New Zealand, Health, 1996, 40¢ + 5¢ "Teddy Bear" error (Scott B154), post office fresh right margin single, o.g., never hinged, Extremely Fine, rare, according to Scott catalogue slightly over 1,000 examples were sold in error by two post offices within three days of June 5, 1996.
Campbell-Patterson T68a.
Scott $1,000.
Estimate $500 - 750

One of the most spectacular post war design errors from the British Commonwealth. In mid 1996 the annual "Health" issue was printed and about to be issued by New Zealand Post. However at the very last minute it was discovered that the 40¢ + 5¢ stamp had a major design fault. The stamp showed a baby child in a child restraint, alongside a Teddy Bear, who was wearing the car seat belt. Both facing toward the front and in New Zealand this is not permitted. The design was amended at the last moment, and the original printing supposedly destroyed, the final issued design having no Teddy Bear, and no seat belt, so it was not apparent the child was facing in the "illegal" direction.
Suggested Bid $500-750
