224 C41 imageGermany, 1931, Airmail, 2m Polar Flight Zeppelin (Scott C41), tied by Berlin cds, 25.7.31, on 1¢ Newfoundland postal card uprated with additional 3¢ postage, carried on Graf Zeppelin Polar Flight (Michel 204b) to the icebreaker Malyguin, red flight cachet and Malyguin receiver; handstamped recording number "50818"; the Newfoundland stamps are tied by the flight cachet and by an additional Berlin cds, 26.8.31, the same date that the card was marked for return to the sender, one Rene McPherson of Grand Falls, Nfld.; there are no Newfoundland postal markings but the card is completely legitimate, Very Fine, exceedingly rare.

226   imageGermany, 1936, three different Hindenburg Mail documents, 1). May 15, is an original mimeographed copy of a letter from the U.S. P.O.D. to F.W. von Meister, the U.S. representative of the German Zeppelin Transport Co. in New York with instructions as to how incoming mail is to be handled; 2). dated May 16, is a typed, signed letter from von Meister to an A.J. Gariépy of American Airlines, advising him of said P.O.D. instructions and enclosing the aforementioned mimeographed letter, along with a certificate [not present] authorizing American Airlines' representative to call for mail to be carried on Hindenburgs 2nd return flight (May 20); 3). June 23, an original carbon copy, signed by von Meister, to Supt. of Mails at the New York Post Office, authorizing the letter's bearer to pick up mail at 8:30 p.m. to be dispatched on the Hindenburg from Lakehurst at midnight; a Fine and unusual trio of Hindenburg postal history documents.

A very rare cover, sent to a crewman of the German cruiser Admiral Graf Spee, after the ship was scuttled by its captain off the coast of Montevideo in the first major Naval conflict of World War II.
