2001   imageUnited States, 1929, May 14, First Amphibian Mail Flight, Cleveland - Detroit, Air Express by Railway Express Agency, Inc., Air Shipment prepaid label affixed and tied to reverse by flight cachet and receiving postmark, the flight was forced down over Lake Erie when the flight encountered fog and landed near the Canadian shore (hence a foreign incident). Afternoon newspapers in Cleveland reported her and her passengers and mail lost, when the fog cleared they took off for Detroit.

2021 C80 note imageUnited States, 1935, Waitkus-Atlantic flight (Scott C80 note), leaving Brooklyn Sept 21st 1935 with a USA # C19 applied, arriving in Kaunas, Lithuania. Then subsequently for the return section of the journey the special airmail overprint Scott #C80 var. applied of Lithuania journey to Chicago, accompanied by the autograph of the pilot Waitkus. A rare combination cover seldom seen as such. This was last sold in Germany in 1985 at 1800 marks, Very Fine and scarce.
