The LZ 4 was destroyed the following morning when it accidentally came into contact with some trees and immediately burst into flame., Very Fine.

The destruction of LZ 4 was witnessed by an estimated 40 to 50 thousand spectators and resulted in an outpouring of nationalistic support for Count Zeppelin's work. Within 24 hours, unsolicited donations were sufficient to rebuild the airship. Eventually a total of more than six million marks was donated, providing the Zeppelin Company with a sound financial base to continue its development of the airship. (Image)
