9415   imageSouth Africa, Imperial Military Railways, bold violet handstamped cachet at top of cover to England franked by pair of Transvaal 1d carmine and green overprint'd "E.R.I." and tied by "Pretoria / Transvaal / 28 Apr 01" postmark, vertical pocket fold and a couple tears at top, Very Fine usage; among the scarcest Boer War items, with this form of cachet not recorded by Rich; though some Army Post Offices were located aboard trains, the military railways had no postmarks of their own, not even at their base or supply depots, and had to rely on the civilian postal system.
