after siege was lifted and canceleld "Durban / Natal / 3 Mr, 1900", various Indian backstamps, roughly opened resulting in piece and most of flap missing; the civilian post office continued to operate, but mail out of town was held until
after the siege was relieved on 28th Feb; this cover is addressed to Major Kincaid Smith, a friend of Winston Churchill and a participant in the "Jameson Raid", Smith was tried in London and acquitted for his involvement. Suggested
