The letter was carried from Calcutta to London via steamer with CALCUTTA STEAM LETTER Paid Giles SD12. Prepayment of 1/- was made in full but 1/- in manuscript was erroneously crossed out, eventually forwarded using 1d penny- red tied by a fine Maltese Cross.
