122       imageSanta Fe, N.M., Feb 4. Discernible cds on cover bearing 3¢ dull red (26), corner nick, canceled grid cancel to Anamosa Iowa, original four-page enclosure from miner at Ortiz Mine at Old Placers datelined "Pleseir, Jan. 25, 1861" mentioning being in the mountains during the harsh winter…the Indians are comiting considerable depridations hear but I think with the proper precausion thear will be but little danger. Thear was a man hear some 10 days since. He was murdered about 25 m. from haer. He had not any money when he left. Somle think the Mexicans murdered him becose he did not pay his bill. They taken his clothes off him. I regreted after I heard of his death I had not gave him money. Had he been a sober man I should have done it, F.-V.F.

N.J, Jan 12" First Federal cds and red manuscript. "forwd 8" rating totaled to "18" cents due, interesting letter content with congratulations to Burgess Allison for resuming his school post, the sender Charles Gobert's brother-in-law is back from Guadeloupe leaving for China soon as supercargo, etc., Extremely Fine and choice forwarded use.

The addressee, Burgess Allison (1753-1827) was a native of Bordentown, N.J. and studied at Rhode Island College. He became pastor of a Baptist congregation and founder of a classical boarding school in his hometown. After he retired from his school in 1796, he devoted his energies to invention and the improvement of machines, among them the polygraph, physiognotrace, and paper ruling machine. John Isaac Hawkins shared with Allison a passion for scientific experiment and together they patented an improved method for making paper from cornstalks. When his financial resources plummeted, Allison resumed his Bordentown boarding school post in October 1801 and accepted the local pulpit. This letter congratulates. (Image1)		 Est. $300-400

A RARE EXAMPLE OF THIS FANCY COLUMBUS STAMPLESS POSTMARK WITH 17 TORCHES SIGNIFYING OHIO'S ADMITTANCE AS THE 17TH STATE.
