Mostly clear strikes of "GEORGE*TOWN*S" and "JAN:31" separate town and date straightline handstamps on reverse of folded letter datelined "Georgetown Jany. 31st 1775" to Philadelphia, manuscript "2" dwt rating and magenta "1/-" in local currency (2dwt=6p x 1.67 inflation factor=10p plus 2p carrier fee or or 1sh), Very Fine and rare, ex-Hahn.

ONE OF ONLY THREE RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE COLONIAL GEORGETOWN STRAIGHTLINE POSTMARK.

Although the "GEORGE*TOWN*S" straightline was once thought to be from South Carolina, it is now generally accepted that the marking was used at Georgetown, Maryland, shortly before the transition from the British Parliamentary Post system to the Congressional Post.

"Amherst" postmark, 1845 Amherst red "25" fancy rating handstamp use, two #1 1847 issue covers (only 3 1847 issue covers recorded, all are 5¢ uses) including one with the 5¢ cancelled by the fancy blue dotted grid cancel, #1 used from Boston incoming to Amherst, #2 pen cancelled incoming used from Cincinnati Oh. to Winchester Ct. and forwarded to North Amherst Mass., 1849 and 1850 Amherst to Jamaica with one having "Jamaica / Ship Letter" two-line handstamp, #10 use, #11 1853 registered use to Philadelphia with red "R" handstamp, #11 used on Fremont campaign cover, #26 on illustrated Amherst Picture Gallery cover, couple Civil War patriotics, auxiliary marking covers including.
