Extremely Fine, a choice and very rare blue frank usage with only two recorded usages on the 1861 entires. Scott No. U35; Estimate $500 - 750.
It is speculated that the blue frank designated special carriage on the
Sacramento River steamboats, because Wells Fargo's handstamped "Steamboat" markings cease to appear at just the time when the blue franks came into use.
